This list is for families using the classical approach to education as outlined in Laura Berquist's independent study program, Mother of Divine Grace (MODG), and in her book Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum (DYOCC). The discussions on this loop primarily revolve around the implementation and use of resources which are recommended in the MODG syllabi and in DYOCC. Additionally, they always welcome conversations about the classical methodology of MODG/DYOCC.

I've blogged about many things before, but I may never have really blogged about homeschooling. This is the first year of homeschooling that I have really sat down with a plan in mind, a goal, and set out to accomplish it, and let me just say that I am having the best time!

When the first SAT was created, it was named the Scholastic Aptitude Test, signaling that its creators and the education world believed it to be a test of aptitude, or, a student’s ability to perform well in college. Aptitude tests supposedly measure talents that indicate possible achievement in the future, while achievement tests supposedly reveal how much someone has learned in the past. All these years later, we know the test never really did measure anybody’s aptitude to do well in college.

Imagine touring through all 50 states without driving, flying, taking a bus or train. The US50 consists of concise, important and meaningful information about each of the 50 states in the U.S. You'll find information on history (general history and historical figures), geography (location and state map), the outdoors, historic sites, tourist attractions, state links, state information (agriculture, industry, flag, flower, bird etc.), and state products .

Parents may think counting and recognizing numbers are the nuts and bolts of preschool math. While these are important skills for young mathematicians to master, building a foundation for complex mathematical thinking begins in the early childhood years. Sorting and classifying objects helps children begin to notice how items are alike and different, and creates an awareness that is vital for math learning.
